Applied Microeconometrics Workshop
University of Wisconsin–Madison
August 4–6, 2008
IRP will host an "Applied Microeconometrics Workshop" taught by Guido Imbens, Harvard University, and Jeffrey Wooldridge, Michigan State University. The workshop is modeled on the successful course “What’s New in Econometrics,” which they taught at NBER in summer 2007.
Imbens and Wooldridge will discuss developments in microeconometrics over the last decade and a half. The focus will be on methods that are relevant for, and ready to be used by, empirical researchers, and the workshop is aimed exactly at such researchers. In contrast to much of the published literature in the more technical econometrics and statistics journals, they focus on practical issues important in implementation of the methods and for reading and understanding of the literature. There will be little discussion of technical details, for which the instructors will refer to the literature.
There is no textbook for the workshop, although reference will be made to Wooldridge, J., (2002), Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data, MIT Press. In addition, there will be detailed lecture notes that will be distributed prior to the workshop.
The workshop is co-sponsored by IRP, the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, the UW Center for Demography and Ecology, the University of Southern California (USC) Institute for Economic Policy Research, and the USC Southern California Population Research Center.
Schedule and Lecture Notes
A printout of the course materials will be provided at the workshop.
